Google India to Train Young People in Android App Development

It has not been disclosed how many people they are planning to train, but some news reports say that some of the country’s outsourcing firms were also jumping on the bandwagon.

India’s National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) has partnered with tech giant Google to train young people in the development of Android apps.

Under the Developing Android Apps course, each participant will undergo 100 hours of training. If successful, say analysts, the training program will give birth to a new type of an outsourcing industry that will offer to develop mobile apps rather than software services.

For decades,Indian IT outsourcing firms have developed and maintained web apps for thousands of clients around the globe. With the rise of smartphones there has been a tremendous demand for developing mobile apps at lower cost.

India’s outsourcing firms have never really excelled in this field. Moreover, the country’s mobile app development industry is smaller than in Vietnam and Turkey.

“We believe India is uniquely placed to innovate and shape the internet experience of billions of users who are and will come online on the mobile platform,” said Peter Lubbers, Head of Google Developer Training, in a press release.

India needs to have trained 240 million people in information technology by 2022 to keep up its growth rate in the global technology market, according to IMaCS, a management consulting arm of rating agency ICRA.

With millions of engineering graduates at its disposal, luring youths to the training program will not be tough for the authority. What may prove to be tough is making a mark in the global market for mobile app development.
